Less refined sugar, yet all of the delicious, chocolatey goodness of a brownie. This healthier brownie alternative is a winner.
Makes 16 small-ish squares

Cook Time: 25 minutes
Ingredients
1/2 cup apple sauce (see my apple sauce recipe here)
1/2 cup honey
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 eggs
1/2 cup plain flour
1/2 cup cocoa
1/4 tsp bicarobonate of soda
1/4 tsp salt
a handful of dark chocolate chips (optional)
Method
Preheat the oven to 180ºC. Line a square baking tray with baking paper, leaving an overhang.
Mix the apple sauce and honey togetheriIn a medium-sized bowl. Add the vanilla extract and eggs and whisk together until combined.
Add the flour, cocoa, bicarbonate of soda and salt. Mix until integrated. Add the chocolate chips and stir once more.
Pour the batter into the baking tray.
Bake for 20-25 minutes, until the edges start to shrink away from the sides.
Leave in the tray to cool for a couple of minutes and then use the paper overhang to remove.
Eat while warm or leave to cool on a rack.
