This super easy recipe makes a medium-sweet apple sauce that can be as chunky or smooth as you like, perfect for baking or as a complement to pork.

Makes around 1 litre.
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 25 minutes
Ingredients
1kg of apples - any apples will work, but better varieties include Granny Smith, Fuji and Golden Delicious.
1 tbsp lemon juice
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 cup of granulated sugar
1/2 cup of water
1/4 teaspoon of salt
Method

Peel, core and quarter the apples and put them into a large saucepan.
Add the lemon juice, cinnamon, sugar, water and salt and bring to the boil. Once bubbling, lower the temperature, cover the saucepan and keep the apples at a low simmer for 20 minutes or so.
When ready, the apples should feel soft when you prod them with a fork or skewer.

Remove the pot from the heat and puree the mixture with a hand or stand blender. For a chunkier apple sauce, you can use a potato masher or fork to blend.
If the mixture is too thick, just add a little water.
Can be frozen in a jar or plastic container, but leave room for expansion.
